Private John Lounsberry was born in 1824 in Banksville, New York. He enlisted on August 18, 1862 in West Farms (now the Bronx) as a Private in the 6th New York Heavy Artillery Regiment for a three-year period. On December 24, 1862, he was transferred to the 2nd U.S. Artillery. He died "of sickness" on March 9, 1865 at the U S General Hospital in Martinsburg, West Virginia.
He is in Ancestry.com 1861-65 NARA M551/roll 84 and on Richard Lander's list. Not on WPA locations or on the North Castle Town Clerk's list. He is on roster for the 6th New York Artillery Regiment (page #330) on the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs, Unit History Project.
