John Collin Gray, Jr. was born on July 20, 1906 in Brooklyn, NY to parents John Collin Sr. and Edith Louise Draper Gray. As per the 1910 U.S. Census, the family lived in Brooklyn. As per the 1920 U.S. Census, the family lived in Hempstead, NY. As per the 1940 U.S. Census, the family was still in Hempstead, he was single and worked for Nassau County as a cower attendant. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on March 6, 1944 in New York City as a Private. When he was released from the service (date unknown), he was a Technician 4th Class with the Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment 4th Army.
After the war, Jack married and they had a daughter. Later he divorced. He lived and practiced law in Floral Park, NY, for the rest of his life. He died on January 29, 1971 in Floral Park. He is buried in Florence L. Finch's family plot; she was his mother's first cousin.
