Franklin A. Doerfler (a/k/a "Dorfler") was born on April 19, 1893 in Harrison, New Jersey to parents Abraham and Kathleen (maiden name unknown). Prior to enlisting, he was a coupon clerk for the Manhattan Company at 40 Wall Street in New York City, living in Greenburgh, Westchester County, NY and was single. He enrolled in the U.S. Navy Reserve Force at the Brooklyn Navy Yard on December 10, 1917 with the rating of Yeoman Third Class. He received training at the Naval Training Station in Newport, RI from January 6, 1918 to April 10, 1918. He was transferred to the receiving barracks of the 2nd Naval District at Newport through November 11, 1918 as Yeoman Second Class. He was placed on inactive duty on December 12, 1918.
As per the U.S. 1930 Census, he was living in Hastings-on-Hudson, NY and was married to Elsie L. Perrine and had three daughters. He was a bank clerk. He died in October 1967 in Armonk, NY.
